Canadian government to hold emergency meeting over Nortel deal

The Nortel Networks saga just got a little more interesting. Legislators in the Canadian Parliament will hold a day-long emergency hearing tomorrow to look at the proposed sale of Nortel's CDMA and LTE assets to Ericsson for $1.13 billion. The Canadian House of Commons industry committee said representatives from Ericsson, Nortel and Research In Motion are expected to appear at the hearing. Canadian BlackBerry maker RIM has been pushing for the government to intervene and examine the deal; RIM's $1.1 billion bid for Nortel was blocked. Meanwhile, Canadian Industry Minister Tony Clement has said he will wait to decide on whether to review the sale until after a 21-day appeal period. Article
