The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has ordered all Canadian mobile phone companies to implement number portability by March 14, 2007, throughout most of Canada. The decision was announced approximately three months after the commission began accepting public input on the issue. Bell Mobility, Rogers Wireless and the mobility division of Telus Communications will be required to provide wireless number portability to their customers in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. Across Canada, all mobile carriers will be required to release a phone number to another carrier and, by no later than Sept. 12, 2007, accept a phone number from another carrier.
