Casio in talks with US carriers to supply 3G handsets

Japanese manufacturer Casio Computers announced plans to begin supplying 3G phones to mobile carriers in the US. The company said that it is close to signing a supply deal that would have the US carriers selling Casio's waterproof and shock-resistant 3G phones. Although the company did not disclose which US carriers it was in talks with, Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless are the main carriers that use the same standard as Casio's top customer, Japanese carrier KDDI. Casio currently makes three-fifths of its profit from sales in Japan, while 10 percent comes from sales in North America. Handset sales drive one-fifth of the company's revenue.
