Cingular closes MySpace deal
We reported on the rumors during the past few months, but now it's official: Cingular has inked a deal with MySpace that will let Cingular subscribers access the social networking site's content on the mobiles. The service costs $2.99 a month and will also enable subscribers to use email, post pictures, write blog entries and comment on the MySpace pages. Video functionalities, extensive graphics and advertising will not be available at launch. MySpace usage in the U.S. has flattened to about 80 million unique users per month, which may explain the site's foray into mobile. Previously, Sky Dayton's MVNO Helio had an exclusive deal with the social networking site, but now MySpace says its agreement with Cingular is exclusive for "several months" too. So are they discounting Helio or did they take the service away?

MySpace and Helio's deal probably had exclusivity that expired after a period of time. This is very typical in the industry. Now Cingular has likely gotten "exclusivity" vis-a-vis other (non-mvno) wireless carriers, again for a period of time.
Agreed, Shooter. Interesting that the MVNOs don't factor in, though. That the term "exclusive" applies because, well, Helio's just an MVNO. -Brian
