CT Communications has sold wireless spectrum it owned in North Carolina and Tennessee to Clearwire, the wireless broadband startup launched by Craig McCaw. The deal is valued at $16 million. McCaw formed Clearwire last year. The company already offers services in several markets and plans to be active in 20 cities before year's end. The broadband spectrum is being sold to Fixed Wireless Holdings, which is part of Clearwire. The deal's closing is subject to regulatory approval.
