Clearwire shuffles jobs, redeploys workers

Tools

Although a report from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer says that Clearwire cut an undisclosed number of jobs during the past two weeks, Clearwire says that those cuts weren't layoffs but instead a "redeployment of resources." Mark Fanning, vice president, people development at Clearwire, spoke with FierceWireless this morning and said that the company isn't shrinking its staff, it's growing. "One big challenge we have is finding great people to fuel our growth. We certainly don't want the perception that we are shrinking our workforce."

Fanning said that the company is eliminating some positions because it has achieved certain efficiencies in established markets. However Fanning says that Clearwire is still hiring. "Some of the jobs are being eliminated and people are moving on but some employees are moving on to other jobs within the company," Fanning said.

Fanning wouldn't provide a total figure for the number of jobs impacted by the redeployment. He said they wouldn't have that final figure for a few more weeks.

I love the word "redeployment of resources" Clearwire is using. In fact they are laying off many important jobs at Clearwire, jobs such as an Inventory Coordinator and RF Technicians. These jobs are important to Clearwire's success as a company.

An Inventory Coordinator (IC) at Clearwire keeps tracks of all inventory such as Modems, routers and clearplugs. Losing an Inventory Coordinator at a Clearwire location means losing track of all equipment records. You see, Clearwire DOES NOT keep track of all items shipped to their local markets, which in turns means losing thousands to even millions of dollars to the company and of course to the shareholders.

Clearwire also decided to "lay off" many of their technicians. These technicians are essential to Clearwire's success, not only by maintaining and servicing towers, but also by keeping Clearwire's weaknesses in confidentiality. By eliminating the techs, Clearwire has exposed themselves to possible threats and attacks on their network.

And as far as employees promoting to newer positions within the company. Such as "promoting" from a General Manager to a Territory Manager with less pay. That's building a winning tradition!

So the Clearwire coined term "redeployment of resources" is a bunch of balony. Instead it should be "loss of resources" and loss of money to keep employees around.

I have been on Clearwire for about two years. Lately, I have been noticing that I am experiencing dropped emails. This was proven from multiple domains with Clearwire being the common denominator. Tech service is non existant, poor and tends to put all blame on the user. I suspect they know they have a problem, but are very closed about informing their customers.

I am looking for other ISP options.
