Disney Mobile Japan unveils handsets

Tools

Disney has finally opened the kimono for its planned MVNO launch in Japan by unveiling the service's initial three mobile phones. Disney claims to be "extremely confident" in achieving success as the country's first MVNO, despite the high-profile debacles of ESPN Mobile and Disney Mobile in the U.S. The company plans to launch the MVNO, which will be called Disney Mobile, on March 1. The service is a joint venture with Softbank. Japan's Sharp made the three phones, which are adorned with silhouette patterns of Mickey Mouse. The phones also include a dedicated button that sends subscribers directly to Disney websites as well as Disney themes and icons for wallpaper.
