NTT DoCoMo and Intel have developed a handset specification that enables handsets to switch between different operating systems and their particular applications. The companies say the capability will allow the enterprise to install original browsers and schedulers on their employees' handsets, while protecting the terminal with an internal security policy that allows users to install their own games and software without compromising the corporate data or applications. The embedded controller also makes sure that users receive calls even if they are sent to the closed terminal. For example, if the employee is playing games on the "personal" OS and gets a call to the "work" terminal, the phone will immediately switch back to the terminal receiving the call. It's certainly an interesting spec and I'll look forward to seeing it in action.
