NTT DoCoMo and Sun Microsystems announced an agreement to develop next-generation mobile data services using Sun's mobile Java technology. The agreement, codenamed the Star Project, expands an existing partnership between the two companies. The two companies will work together to develop consumer and enterprise apps. According to estimates, 56 percent of mobile phones in Japan run on DoCoMo's networks. No financial details of the deal were released.
