Ericsson pushes for more revenue from patent portfolio

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC), which participated in a consortium earlier this year to buy Nortel Networks' patent portfolio for $4.5 billion, is now looking to monetize its own patent trove, according to CEO Hans Vestberg. Vestberg told Bloomberg that in the years ahead as more devices become connected to wireless networks, Ericsson will look to strike patent-licensing agreements with other companies. Ericsson holds a large collection of LTE, Wi-Fi and other wireless standard patents, and the company earned $704 million from its patent business in 2010, more than double what it made in 2006.
