Ericsson releases module for netbooks

Ericsson launched a new mobile broadband module specifically designed for netbooks. The company said the module will allow manufacturers to more easily equip netbooks with embedded wireless connectivity.

The company said the module, known as the F3307, will allow users to avoid using dongles for mobile broadband connectivity, and will enable a direct HSPA connection. Ericsson said it is also working with Intel to validate the new module with Intel's next-generation netbook platform, Pine Trail-M.

The company said it estimated that 300 million netbooks will be sold between 2009 and 2014, most with mobile broadband capabilities.
