Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) is driving Volvo into the connected car market, with the Swedish automaker announcing that it will use the network vendor's Connected Vehicle Cloud platform. The companies said that drivers and passengers will be able to access applications for information, navigation and entertainment that are connected to the cloud from a screen in the car. Volvo will also be able to open parts of the platform to other carmakers and auto-industry players. Volvo is Ericsson's first customer to use the Connected Vehicle Cloud platform, and the carmaker said it plans to partner with Internet radio providers, road authorities, cities' governments, toll-road operators and others in the future.
