The European mobile technology sector has warned the European Union that its proposed broadcasting rules could hurt investment and thus restrict the growth of emerging media formats, including video broadcasts on the Internet and mobile phones. A group of British companies--ITV, BT, Vodafone and the U.K. subsidiaries of Yahoo, Intel and Cisco--said the European Commission proposal to impose rules for traditional broadcasters on new media providers should be reconsidered as they will be incredibly difficult to enforce. Some of the rules include limits on hate speech, advertising and the kind of content that can be broadcast to children.
