Euro iPhone launch by December, not September

Tools

We've noticed a few spurious reports covering Apple's investor relations conference call earlier this week: Apple did not promise to launch the iPhone in Europe by September, but rather December of this year. Some reports confused the fourth calendar quarter (which ends in December) with Apple's fiscal fourth quarter (which ends in September).

"It took Apple seven quarters, almost two years, to sell our one millionth iPod," said Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer. "We hope to sell our one millionth iPhone by the end of its first full quarter ending September 29th. We are on track to begin selling the iPhone in Europe during the fourth calendar quarter of this year, starting with a few major countries and expanding the number of countries throughout 2008. We will announce our initial plans with our European partners later this quarter. Finally, we reiterate our goal of selling 10 million iPhones in calendar 2008."
