Europe OKs ultrawideband wireless

Tools

Within the next six months, the EU will approve the short-range, high-bandwidth technology ultrawideband (UWB), pending an EC group's approval. UWB promises data speeds of 1Gbps. Currently, UWB is illegal almost everywhere outside the U.S. Even within the U.S. its deployment is severely regulated by how much power it can radiate across the bands it covers. According to a report in ZDNet, the EC will restrict the technology even more rigorously than the U.S. does. While it should take a few months to get the final nod, UWB equipment manufacturers are permitted to prepare them for the European market in the meantime.
