FCC to improve wireless 911 location tech

Even though current regulations require wireless carriers to be able to guarantee that their subscribers can be located when they contact emergency call centers, the service can be off by several miles and FCC chairman Kevin Martin announced he intends to improve the technology's accuracy. Martin told the AP, "This is something we always want to be improving on. We have to make sure public safety doesn't lose because we don't take advantage of the changes in technology." According to a report from the CTIA, 230,000 911 calls are made each day from mobile phones.
