Google's Android platform is on the rise, according to the latest data from research firm Gartner. According to the firm, Android surpassed Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform in the first quarter for the No. 4 spot in global smartphone market share. Android now has 9.6 percent of the global market share, topping Microsoft's 6.8 percent share. Android now trails Symbian, Research In Motion's (NASDAQ: RIMM) BlackBerry platform and Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone.
