Genachowski: White space spectrum will help M2M apps

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has made unleashing more wireless spectrum a key tenet of his broadband agenda. In September, the commission approved the use of unlicensed white space spectrum, clearing the way for new classes of devices that take advantage of what has been dubbed "super WiFi." Genachowski thinks that the spectrum, which is still a few years away from being exploited commercially, may be helpful for wireless machine-to-machine applications. "This will be a big boost for M2M wireless networks," Genachowski told GigaOM. "We are hoping that companies will make routers for this 'Super Wi-Fi' and get to market fast," he said, adding that, "M2M will not only have a big impact, but it also has the most potential." Article
