Google glosses over spectrum plans in quarterly conference call

Google announced its second quarter's results and briefly addressed its interest in open access for the 700 MHz auction next year. Google's CEO Eric Schmidt said, "We've looked at wireless very carefully and… the most important thing is for there to be an open network so that people can go to a store and plug that device into a wireless network… and use the full capability of the Internet… The longterm goal is that those users will become very significant Google advertising users." As for the frequent rumors about a Google Phone, Schmidt said, "We don't comment on rumors and there are lots and lots of rumors and that's always very exciting."
