GSMA: African subscribers to grow 20% by '10

Tools

The GSMA's Gabriel Solomon, director, government and regulatory affairs said that mobile subscribers on the continent of Africa will grow 20 percent by 2010. Solomon pointed to the 350 million users that are currently covered by mobile networks but do not yet have connection as proof of a large market opportunity. Lowering taxes for handsets and mobile services will remove the largest barriers for the potential users, Solomon said. Lowering the taxes will also make for a more inviting marketplace for other carriers to invest in.
