HTC posts $4.61 billion in sales for 2008

HTC posted $4.61 billion in sales in 2008, up from $3.58 billion last year, boosted in large part by its sales of the T-Mobile G1, the first phone running on Google's Android platform and other smartphones, according to a DigiTimes article.

The Taiwanese company, which has made more inroads into the U.S. market of late, also had a net income in 2008 of $866.72 million, down from $972.49 million last year. The company had $1.43 billion in revenue in the fourth quarter, up over 21 percent from $1.18 billion in the year-ago period. HTC also said that sales for its Touch Diamond and for the G1 met expectations. In November, HTC CEO Peter Chou said he expected 1 million G1 devices to ship in 2008 and 3 million Touch Diamond phones to ship in the year.

The company aims for 20 percent revenue growth, according to anonymous company sources cited in the article. The sources also said the company hopes to bring 10 new devices to the market in 2009, with some running on Windows Mobile and others on Android. In addition, the company will use Ericsson's EMP platform for its 3.5G handsets.
