Incoming Text: More anti-trust lawsuits filed against carriers

Two new class-action anti-trust lawsuits were levelled against U.S. wireless carriers yesterday in federal courts in Ohio and Kansas, as legal jeopardy facing AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile USA, Sprint Nextel and even Alltel Communications increased.
The new lawsuits come on the heels of one filed in Illinois federal court, and allege that the carriers have been illegally collaborating to raise text messaging rates from 10 cents to 20 cents over the last three years.
All of the lawsuits were spurred by last week's decision by U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wisc.) and chairman of the Judiciary Comittee's Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights subcommitee, to look into the hike in text messaging prices.

What a joke!!! With the price of gas this is what the gov choose to investigate? Gas goes up and those companies make hugh profits. Is there really that much profit in a text message?? Most companies have an all you can eat text service.

You're an idiot. You obviously don't know anything about anti-trust so why are you commenting? It doesn't matter how "hugh" (sic) a profit is, it has to do with how those profits are accumulated. If they are done in a way that violates the Sherman Act, then there is an action.

I thought my verizon plan included unlimited text messages (in network).
Since we didn't need the out-of-network texting options, i dropped that. Now ALL text messages from Verizon are $.20 each! what the heck?
