Intel Makes Faster WiFi Chip

Tools

Intel Corp. is planning to start shipping a faster wireless networking chip that is based on the draft 802.11n WiFi specification. The new spec promises users up to five times the performance and better battery life.

Even though the 802.11n spec isn't final, Intel says that it's moving forward with its chips because it's confident that the new standard, once finalized, will be very close to the draft standard.

In addition, the company initiated a "Connect with Centrino" program in which the firm will work with access point vendors to ensure compatibility and performance.
