Intel is succumbing to the pre-N 802.11 pressure, announcing plans to put a pre-standard version of IEEE 802.11n WiFi technology into its Centrino chips by next year. It's not surprising given the fact that the Wi-Fi Alliance pretty much gave its blessing to companies releasing pre-standardized versions of the technology before the IEEE ratifies a standard in 2008. The Wi-Fi Alliance said in August that it would pre-certify the interoperability of pre-802.11n products. WiFi vendors can no longer afford to wait for standards to come out. Those that wait will simply lose out on market share.
