Intel demos platform, partners with Ericsson

Intel unveiled on Monday the first Mobile Internet Device (MID) running on its Moorestown platform, and an Intel executive said the platform, which is scheduled for release sometime in the latter part of 2009, will incorporate 3G, Bluetooth, WiMAX, WiFi, GPS and mobile TV.

Intel also announced a partnership with Ericsson to bring HSPA technology to the platform. 

Anand Chandrasekher, the senior vice president and general manager of Intel's Ultra Mobility Group, showed those at Intel's Developer Forum in Tapei, Taiwan, a video of an "iPhone-esque form factor device" that can be used for videoconferencing and GPS-based map searches, among other features.

Intel is betting that MIDs running on its Atom processor will become as ubiquitous as Apple's iPhone 3G.
