iPhone 3G: the wait is finally over
Across the country people flocked to Apple and AT&T stores early this morning in anticipation for the 8 a.m. store opening and their first chance to snap up an iPhone 3G device. In Denver, lines started forming in front of the Apple store at the Cherry Creek Mall at about 4 a.m. and by 7 a.m. the line included about 75 people. At a nearby AT&T store, people started lining up about 5 a.m. and by 7 a.m. the line included about 50 people. Most of those in line at the AT&T store were existing AT&T customers that wanted to upgrade to the 3G device.
Despite predictions of long waits due to the extensive activation process, there have been a few glitches reported so far. An altercation broke out in Florida among those waiting in line and police had to be called. In the U.K. there was a minor software snafu.

No glitches? How about the iTunes server outage that is preventing anyone from activating their iPhones? Pretty big glitch in my book.
So they're just finally getting 3G for such a heralded cell phone?
Welcome to the last four years, At&T.
When I wrote this story that glitch had not been reported yet. We are looking into it and will update the story when we have more details.
If you have the patience to wait for another 6 months, I bet you will get the unlocked 3G iPhone at the same price $199 without a contract. It is already available in the "water" market in Asia at RMB2550 ($320) and continue to less than $200 within 6 months.
The Apple/ATT iPhone re-launch fiasco is now being called the "iPocalypse".
What a dumb idea to make people wait 30mins to buy a phone & then force them to activate it right then and there....
I guess, ATT was afraid of losing revenue if folks figure out a way to unlock the phone.... (they are already taking a loss in reducing the price).
so i guess your not going to update this story, huh?
