iPhone, HTC, TracFone top 2011 Google cell phone searches

Tools

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) released its annual "zeitgeist," showing the top words users searched for during the year. In the cell phone category, Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone--a competitor to Google's Android platform--garnered by far and away the most Google search traffic. Although Google didn't provide specific figures, the company's search traffic chart shows iPhone searches towering over searches for all other phones. After iPhone searches, two HTC products generated the most search interest: the HTC Evo for Sprint Nextel  (NYSE:S) (the carrier's first WiMAX smartphone) and the HTC ThunderBolt for Verizon Wireless (the carrier's first LTE smartphone). HTC also clocked in at No. 7 with the Inspire for AT&T Mobility (NYSE:T). Google's list of the top 10 cell phone searches also included products from Samsung and Motorola Mobility (NYSE:MMI) and--interestingly--two search terms tied to América Móvil's U.S. prepaid MVNO operation TracFone. "Tracfone" ranked No. 6 in Google's list and one of TracFone's brands, Net10, ranked No. 10. Page
