ITT sues Verizon, vendors over GPS patent

ITT Corp. is suing Verizon Wireless and several major wireless industry vendors, saying that Verizon has been infringing on a patent it holds for GPS technology, and that the wireless carrier has induced other companies to infringe on the patent as well.

A unit of ITT Corp., which also makes military technology, said in the lawsuit that Verizon infringed on its patent by selling phones that use assisted GPS technology and by offering other GPS services. ITT said it notified Verizon of the patent. Verizon declined to comment on the litigation.

ITT also named Kyocera, LG Electronics, Nokia, Motorola and Qualcomm as defendants in the lawsuit.
