Japan puts pressure on Nokia over battery issue

Last week, Nokia dealt with a widespread problem with some of the batteries in its mobile phones overheating, we said they moved quickly on the issue before any serious injury or property damage occurred (although the first reported exploding Nokia phone has now surfaced). Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, however, seems to think it moved too slow. Nokia reportedly took 16 days to report the problem to Japanese authorities, which is ten days more than the limit in that country. The ministry has given Nokia until next Friday to report on the details of a "series of accidents" involving the batteries made by Matsushita.
