Sorting through the broadband stimulus package

The public comment phase of the broadband stimulus is still being sorted out, but it is clear that Congress got a few things right with the plan, according to industry analyst Craig Settles. Congress was right to focus on giving broadband grant money to local governments and related non-profits, since one or two major incumbent service providers cannot fulfill each community's unique broadband needs. Private companies can get grants, if their plan is in the public interest. However, some have indicated they may not take the money if the rules are too stringent.  Commentary
