Leap, Metro PCS announce roaming deal

Tools

Leap Wireless and Metro PCS have inked a national roaming deal that would cover both networks' present and future markets. Plus the two firms have ended all litigation between the two companies, according to a joint statement.

The roaming deal, which has an initial 10-year term, will allow the two regional carriers to provide interoperable service for their customers. The two companies, which were embroiled in merger talks last fall and into the beginning of this year, also announced a spectrum exchange program, with Leap getting 10 MHz of spectrum in Fresno, San Diego, Seattle and other Washington and Oregon markets, and Metro PCS getting 10 MHz in certain markets, including Dallas-Ft. Worth, Shreveport-Bossier City, Lakeland-Winter Haven, Florida and in other North Texas markets.

The deal brings to a head a relationship that was less than cordial last year. Leap rejected Metro PCS's unsolicited $5.5 billion offer last September, and the two were locked in merger talks and speculation for months. FierceWireless predicted in January that the two companies would merge by the end of the year, and while there is no word that such a merger is imminent, this announcement certainly adds a level of closeness between the carriers.

Metro PCS & Leap (Criket) are the BEST Carriers NOW with the MERGER!

Sprint / Nextel Have no Chance any more ..
(Say Hello to bankrpucy AT&T!)

Verizon Wireless will be the hardest carrier to be put down but that was then & this is NOW! i doubt it will take long before they feel the push..

T-mobile?? Are they even around still? i dont think they are so i will skip them.

REASONS:
You could tell OTHER carriers are feeling the pressure of LOOSING CLIENTS TO METRO PCS & LEAP (Criket)

Reason (1)(CON) AT&T Ect other LIMITED companies ADVERTISE they want to go unlimited minutes. TO EXPENSIVE $100 PER LINE! Um Sorry NO!

(PRO) METRO PCS : $100 Dollars PER 4 LINES !
YES, YES, YES!!

Reason (2) (CON)They May have a pda phone but paying over $70 - $300 PER LINE is insane!

(PRO) Metro PCS & Leap RAZER V3 / Moto Z6m (ROKER) Camera / internet / Video / MP3! & MOST IMPORTANLY (UN)limited MINUTES FOR $40 or 4 lines FOR $100 YES, YES, YES!!!

If you need to comment PLEASE DO!

I was a loyal with metro for 6 years uin florida but the signal still really bad so i move to boost unlimited and i am really happy because i have strong signal and no more dropping calls.when i see that metro improve his network i will back but no for now.signal is terrible.

I used to have Metro, but it is very expensive if you don't spend all your time on the phone. Coverage area was limited. Retailers charged a fee to pay your bill! Outrageous! I paid online. I liked the phone I had, Nokia 6235i, but when it started to malfunction, I switched to PagePlus Cellular. The best network. The cheapest price, I mean huge savings. Bought new phones on eBay that can be cabled to the computer to transfer pictures, so no charge there for pic messaging. Also have an STi Mobile phone, which we needed when traveling since Metro had no towers in Reno.

But this is big news. I don't know anything about Leap or its coverage. This is good to know, even though it is very lame to call Caller ID part of an extra feature package. LOL I agree that the carriers that charge $100 for unlimited are out of their minds. Contracts are no good; they serve only the company that wants to rip off the customer. That is why PagePlus is so excellent - Verizon screws people daily with their contracts, and tried that on me after I spent 12 straight years with them. Not your typical Metro customer here, but if there is a choice between Verizon contract and Metro, you are better off with Metro as long as you pay online and stay out of their sleazy stores.

I have had metro pcs for the past 5 yrs and have had no reception issues whatsoever. But of course i do get the best phones. Motorola or Samsung are best for using with Metro's service,Nokias are bad with any carrier. I like the way that i can have it all for only $50 a month w/o paying extra for sending tons of texts as i do and not to have to worry about counting minutes. I have free 411 and picture messaging and web service all included.

METRO IS RISING TO THE TOP. THEY NOW HAVE A NEW NETWORK CALL A W S WICH WORKS GREAT ANYWEHRE WHERE THEY SERIVCE. AND THEY CAN ALSO ACTIVATED OTHER CARRIES PHONE. TO WORK UNDER THE NETWORK HOW COOL IS THAT. AND NOW WITH NEW COVERAGE MAN THATS THE BEST PARTS NO MORE ROMMING FEE

Metro PCS need to keep up with the latest phones that are coming out. The reason MANY people switch most of the time, is NOT because Metro has bad service, it's because the phones give more. Blackberry is the NEW thing now. EVERYONE has one. Even my students have blackberries. Metro is STILL on the Razor phone, which doesn't last long, no good on the eyes, and don't really do much.
If Metro REALLY wants to hang with the big dogs, put out like the big dogs. THEN claim your fame.

if metro was really doing something, then they would allow customers to activate any flashed phone and ditch that crappy hudinisoft

cricket is where it's at...i have a Sprint HTC Touch Pro (best cmdma phone on the market) with all features working on cricket

i use web with streaming video, etc (EVDO!!!)...pic messaging works like a charm...of course unlimited talk/text...i have tomtom mobile that works even if the phone has no service (internal gps receiver)

cricket doesn't need to sell any nice phones...you can pwn any phone you want and use any feature you could on the "big guys" networks

the only thing that cricket needs to change is the capped evdo speed on it's phone lines, and they need to drop the proxy server!
