Metric: 73% of VoIP subscribers to use wVoIP by 2009

According to In-Stat, the number of consumer VoIP subscribers using wireless VoIP phones will grow from 2 percent currently to 73 percent in 2009. In-Stat advises that dual-mode cellular/WiFi handsets will be the key driver to mass consumer adoption of VoIP. The researcher forecasts that by 2009 over 66 million cellular/WiFi handsets will be in operation. Although mass production of dual-mode handsets is not expected until 2007, a recent market survey found that over 80 percent of businesses currently have an interest in wireless VoIP technology.
