MetroPCS drops $40 unlimited LTE plan

Flat-rate carrier MetroPCS (NASDAQ:PCS) has discontinued the sale of its $40 LTE service plan, opting for higher-priced data plans for its new LTE smartphones. The company stopped offering the $40 plan--which offered unlimited voice, texting and mobile Web (with unlimited YouTube access)--sometime late last year, a spokesman confirmed to FierceWireless. The change came when MetroPCS stopped selling the Samsung Craft, its first LTE handset based on the BREW platform. All of the company's new Android LTE smartphones require the company's existing LTE plans, which start at $50 per month. MetroPCS offers a $50 plan with unlimited voice, texting, Web, email and 1 GB of multimedia streaming, as well as $60 plans that offer all of that plus unlimited streaming to either the Rhapsody music service or the carrier's MetroStudio video service.
