Microsoft OS strategy will take aim at Android, iPhone

Tools

According to a Digitimes report, Microsoft is carefully plotting an attack aimed at the Android and iPhone operating systems. Unnamed sources at Taiwan handset makers are saying that Microsoft will launch Windows Mobile 6.5 Oct. 1 and then add an upgrade to the software platform in February 2010 that will feature a touch interface.

WinMo 6.5 is slated for release in conjunction with the introduction of Microsoft's Windows Marketplace for Mobile application storefront.

Further, Microsoft will not phase out WinMo 6.5 when it launches Windows Mobile 7 in fourth-quarter 2010, but instead will reduce the price of WinMo 6.5. Thus, the software giant will have products targeting the Android platform (WinMo 6.5) and the iPhone operating system (WinMo 7). By having both operating systems available to developers and handset makers, the software giant believes it will be better situated in the mobile market.

I have had WM6.5 on my Touch Pro for a while now! The chefs at PPCGeeks.com and XDA has it under control!!

Yeah good luck with that. Windows mobile is garbage, Developing for the Iphone is a nightmare and I don't know a single person who own's an android phone, do you... didn't think so.

Wow. Is this serious?

Now I see how Microsoft wins. R6.5 (hexagons!) will beat Android starting in October, and R7.0 (touch!) will beat iPhone starting in over a year from now.

I know a lot of people that own an android phone. I for one and half of my friends too.

I own an android phone, and I must say its pretty awesome!

Microsoft OS strategy will take aim at Android, iPhone...

Kind of like how Palm OS strategy took aim at RIM and iPhone? How did that work out again?

i own an android and two of my friends too... but maybe thats because europe got four androids in stores already not only two like in the us.

Lol... Android is the way to go
