Microsoft to reportedly show off mobile version of Windows 10 at January event

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) sent out invitations for an event on Jan. 21 at its headquarters in Redmond, Wash., where it will show off more of the next version of Windows, Windows 10. According to a ZDNet report, which cited unnamed sources familiar with the matter, Microsoft will be demoing for the first time in public the combined Windows Phone-Windows RT Windows 10 mobile SKU that is expected to work on Intel- and ARM-based tablets, as well as Windows Phone smartphones. That version of Windows 10 is reportedly not going to have a desktop, and will only run Windows Store/"Metro Style" apps. Windows 10, which looks more like Windows 7 and brings back the fabled Start button and the ability to run Windows 8 apps in standard windows alongside classic programs, is Microsoft's attempt to win back market share and momentum after consumers and enterprises weren't won over by the touch-friendly Windows 8. Microsoft expects to release Windows 10 commercially early next fall. Article
