Last week a report from analyst Jack Gold stirred things up in the enterprise DRM sector: Gold argued that enterprise users will be turned off by Windows Mobile 5.0's inability to encrypt data that has been pushed to the handset over-the-air (OTA). Gold figured that the data is SSL-encrypted when in transit, but the mobile platform of Windows cannot receive data when in an encrypted format, so only a password must protect the data. Apparently, Microsoft will not deny whether Gold's analysis was spot on, but a Microsoft spokesperson reiterated that "the entire data stream between a Windows Mobile device and Microsoft Exchange server is encrypted using SSL data encryption."
