Microsoft: Second white space device works

Tools

As we reported last week, the FCC ruled that a prototype of a mobile device that runs on the white space spectrum between broadcast TV signals interferes too much with TV signals. Microsoft, Google and others submitted the device. Now Microsoft is disputing the agency's findings, because it showed the FCC another prototype that worked. The FCC has scheduled a meeting this Thursday to discuss testing options for white-space devices. Two weeks ago, FCC engineers claimed that the original prototype caused static on existing broadcasts. Microsoft claims that the new prototype "reliably detected occupied television channels."
