Motorola close to naming cell phone chief?

Fortune magazine is reporting that Motorola is close to naming a new executive to head up its ailing cell phone division. After hunting for more than four months, Motorola is apparently ready to appointment someone to what many consider the hardest job in the industry--returning the famed division to its glory days.

CEO Greg Brown has said that he plans to separate the cell phone business from the rest of the company next year, leaving the company to just making products such as set top boxes and two-way radios for public safety.  Those divisions are providing life support for the mobile unit, which has lost $1.5 billion in the last five quarters.
