CTIA: Motorola will be at the April show

Contrary to rumors that swept through the Web earlier this week, a CTIA spokeswoman says that Motorola will have two booths at CTIA Wireless 2009 in Las Vegas in April 1-3. One of the booths will feature the firm's M2M wireless modules.

A report earlier this week on the blog Phone Scoop said that Motorola would not be exhibiting at CTIA. In addition, the report painted a dire picture for the company that included rumors of massive layoffs coming in the company's handset division and cuts in its production line.

The beleaguered handset maker has been in a period of uncertainty since it posted a $397 million loss in the third quarter and said it would cut 3,000 jobs. Co-CEO Sanjay Jha, the head of Motorola's mobile devices business, said at the time of the earnings report that the company would focus on Android and Windows Mobile-based handsets. In December, Motorola said it would freeze U.S. pension plans, stop matching company 401(k) contributions, halt most salary increases for 2009 and cut executive pay.

MOT should attend the Detroit auto show. They'd be in good company with GM and Chrysler.
