Motorola will release 700 MHz LTE products in 2009

Tools

Motorola is gearing up for an onslaught of demand for LTE equipment in the 700 MHz band and the 2.6 GHz band. The company says that the first commercial release of products for these new spectrum bands will be available in 2009.  Verizon Wireless and AT&T were both big winners in the 700 MHz auction earlier this year and both have said they plan to migrate to LTE technology.

Specifically, Motorola said that its LTE solution will support LTE Time Division Duplex (TDD). It also said that its expertise in OFDM (gained from working with WiMAX networks) will help it develop a mature LTE portfolio. In addition, the company said that it is engaged in LTE trials with operators in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
