Mozilla's announcement that it would bring to market a smartphone costing around $25 running the Firefox OS is coming to fruition. Intex Technologies released the Cloud FX smartphone as the first Firefox OS smartphone available in India, costing 1,999 rupees, or around $33. Firefox OS phones are designed as entry-level devices for customers buying their first smartphone and the Cloud FX seems to fit that mold. The phone sports a 1 GHz processor, 2-megapixel camera, expandable memory of up to 4 GB, and also has dual-SIM capabilities, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, as well as built-in functionality for users to monitor and control their data usage. The phone also supports several local languages, including Hindi and Tamil.

"It is exciting to see the Intex Cloud FX now available as the first Firefox OS device in India and Asia," Mozilla President Li Gong said in a statement. "The positive consumer feedback from other markets tells us that people like the unique user experience and openness we're building with Firefox OS. With support from Intex, Firefox OS smartphones in the ultra-low-cost category will redefine the entry-level smartphone and create strong momentum in Asia."

Mozilla will introduce a $38 phone later this week made by Spice Mobility, Jane Hsu, the company's  director of product marketing, told Bloomberg. She said Mozilla will announce other deals with Indian smartphone makers in the coming weeks, though she declined to identify them. Mozilla has not said when its partners will bring Firefox OS phones to the U.S. Sales have so far been focused on Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and now Asia. Article
