MVNO Red Pocket launches '4G' service through T-Mobile

MVNO Red Pocket Mobile said it is launching a nationwide "4G" mobile Internet offering for data-only devices via a new agreement with T-Mobile US (NYSE:TMUS). The launch is notable because Red Pocket now offers wireless service through AT&T Mobility, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Red Pocket has been an MVNO of AT&T Mobility (NYSE:T) since 2006, but in August FierceWireless reported that the company would soon add service from Sprint (NYSE:S). (Dean Wong, VP of business development, today confirmed the MVNO is selling Sprint service through a BYOD model with plans starting at $29.99.) Now Red Pocket also offers service from T-Mobile. The actions are notable considering most MVNOs offer service from only one wireless carrier.

Using T-Mobile's network, Red Pocket said it will provide data-only service for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad and Android tablets, as well as "GSM mobile hotspot compatibility."

Red Pocket's new no-contract 4G plans with T-Mobile service include 1 GB of data with 4G speeds for $10 over 30 days, 3 GB of 4G data for $30 over 30 days, and 5 GB of 4G data for $50 over 30 days. For the $30 and $50 plans, users' speeds are throttled for the remainder of their billing cycle once they hit the usage cap.

Red Pocket said its new service is available via its special SIM card, which is regularly $9.99, but is now available online for $1 and includes starter credit for 512 MB of wireless data at 4G speeds along with free shipping.

"Red Pocket 4G Mobile Internet enables superfast internet on-the-go at an incredible value," Red Pocket President Joshua Gordon said in a statement. "Like all Red Pocket Mobile services, our internet plans let you bring your own device and are totally free of stifling long-term contracts."

Wong declined to provide any additional details of Red Pocket's business, including its revenues and subscribers. However, he said that "we've been going strong since 2006."
