Netgear shipping WiFi voice calling handset

Tools

Netgear said it has begun shipping its highly anticipated WiFi-enabled wireless VoIP Skype handset to North American consumers. The handset, the SPH101, was originally expected to ship in June this year. The SPH101 connects directly to the Skype network across almost any 802.11b or 802.11g WiFi network, providing the same voice calling and contact management features Skype's own software offers. The service will work on open networks but WiFi hotspots that require users to log on via a web browser can't host Skype calls made using the handset.
