New tools help developers segment their app users

Just last month, Appboy quietly launched an audience segmentation product that it said can help developers to better communicate with their users. The product collects a variety of data points including users' social media-related information such as number of followers on Twitter and Facebook or Klout scores, along with how often they've used an app, how long they've stayed active and other actions they perform. Appboy said this information helps developers to create segments such as "high spenders," "passionate fans" or, on the negative side, "recently lapsed users." Appboy is one of a growing number of vendors creating tools for developers to help them segment their users, in an effort to help developers not only gain new users but retain the ones they have.
