Nokia to cut mobile ad sales jobs

Tools

Nokia plans to cut half of its mobile advertising sales division, affecting up to 30 jobs, about a year after the handset maker launched its mobile ad network division at last year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

"As part of its ongoing business review, Nokia has decided that the Nokia Interactive Advertising division should refocus its ad sales and other activities solely on Nokia services, together with some major third-party publishers," Nokia said in a statement. "As a result of this there will unfortunately be some job losses in the UK office."

A Nokia spokesman said that up to 30 people will be laid off and that Nokia would be "focusing on core needs." The move comes in the wake of the handset giant's decision to lay off 320 R&D workers in Finland, and lay off other workers there on a rotational basis. Although none of the job cuts are on the staggering scale of Motorola's, it is still significant that even Nokia is feeling the pinch from dropping sales.
