Nokia's interim CEO Siilasmaa maps out company's future

Nokia's (NYSE:NOK) chairman and interim CEO, Risto Siilasmaa, has talked about how emotional it was for Nokia to sell its key devices and services unit to partner Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) for around $7.2 billion. However, now that the initial impact of the sale has faded somewhat, in an interview posted on the company's blog, Siilasmaa said he believes "this is the beginning of the next 150 years of Nokia's story." He said: "Nokia will look very different without the mobile devices and services business. But it will be a strong company, with healthy finances and three strong businesses--NSN, HERE, and Advanced Technologies--each a leader in technology and innovation." Nokia Solutions and Networks, or NSN, will remain the largest unit of what will be left of the company, and Siilasmaa said Nokia "will continue to manage NSN as a strong, independent unit." The company hopes its HERE mapping and location services platform, which it will license to other companies, will become more important as more devices are connected to the cloud and connected cars become more of a reality. Finally, the Nokia is banking on its Advanced Technologies division to serve as a research and development hub within the company. Article
