Nortel targets tier 2, 3 cities for muni-WiFi

Tools

Nortel is sharpening its focus on muni-WiFi deployments in the U.S. on tier 2 and 3 cities, offering a package that includes a municipal wireless lab, established application partnerships and a "get started" wireless mesh kit in five and 10 wireless access point bundles. The kits include hardware and installation to help smaller cities quickly deploy mesh networks. "Tier 2 and 3 cities are trying to get their heads around this," Angela Singhal Whiteford, director of municipal wireless networks, told FierceWireless. "We allow them to test this solution and allow the community to experience what this is about." Nortel's Municipal Wireless Solution is being used by several new customers in North America, including
Carlsbad, New Mexico; Occoquan Wireless in Occoquan, Virginia and Ronco
Communications in Niagara County, New York.
