Nortel, Websense team up for UMTS security

Nortel and Websense have inked a deal to develop a web content filtering solution for GSM/UMTS mobile handsets. The deal combines Nortel's mobile data inspection software and Websense's filtering solution. The URL filtering and security solution will allow GSM/UMTS wireless operators to set handheld Internet access policies for subscribers. There will be three URL filtering categories: security threats, adult materials and specified undesirable content. Each category will contain content in a variety of sub-categories to allow for defined policy settings. The solution also allows parents to prevent their children from viewing inappropriate or dangerous material. The companies expect the filtering technology to be made available to operators by the end of the year.
