NSN conducting LTE tests with four mystery device vendors

Nokia Siemens Networks said it is conducting end-to-end LTE interoperability tests with four unnamed "leading device vendors," a signal that the company is not going to cede ground or the LTE spotlight to rivals Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson.

The vendor said that the tests are being conducted on several frequency bands required in different regions, including AWS, 700 MHz and 2100 MHz. As more and more carriers begin preparing for what is expected to be a large, worldwide commercial rollout for LTE next year, infrastructure vendors are touting the advancements they are making with LTE testing--and Nokia Siemens is no exception.

In recent weeks, the company's rivals also have touted their own LTE bona fides. Alcatel-Lucent recently trumpeted that it will launch 14 new LTE operator trials during the next six months. And last month, Ericsson was chosen by MetroPCS as the primary infrastructure vendor for the carrier's forthcoming LTE network, the second major LTE contract win Ericsson has in North America alone (after Verizon Wireless).

According to ABI research, at least a dozen operators will launch LTE networks next year.
