NSN: We're working with a U.S. operator on Liquid Applications

Rick Corker Nokia Siemens NetworksNokia Siemens Networks said it has been testing its new Liquid Applications technology with an unnamed U.S. operator. Rick Corker, head of Nokia Siemens Networks' business in North America, said the company has been testing the technology in the United States, and that it could be useful in reducing the weight of video content traveling over U.S. wireless networks. "The idea here is to use the unique aspects of the base station. Every base station has a location and of course we have full user information at the site itself. So you can start to do real-time analysis of who's in the cell site, where they are and then by understanding the local area, we can put in applications," Corker said in an interview with FierceBroadbandWireless Editor Tammy Parker. "It's going to be very interesting for the U.S. market. The U.S. is a big video market. It's one of the fastest growing for data applications in the world. I think it's relevant for the U.S. because the U.S. is already quite advanced in terms of these types of technologies." NSN's Liquid Applications technology is just one of the topics Corker covered during his discussion--Corker also talked about NSN's successful fourth quarter and the company's sales of small cells in the United States.
